Overview
The Department of Gynecology of Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital is a key clinical specialty of Jiangsu Province and Nanjing City. Currently, the department has 2 wards in Building 1(113、114), and 106 beds are open. At present, three subspecialties of gynecological oncology, general gynecology and cervical lesions are opened, as well as gynecological outpatient operating room and gynecological tumor laboratory.
The Gynecologic Oncology Sub-specialty Department mainly treats patients with malignant tumors such as cervical cancer,endometrial cancer,ovarian cancer,vulvar cancer,vaginal cancer,and trophoblastic tumors.Committed to standardized,minimally invasive tumor treatment and organ function protection.The general gynecology subspecialty mainly treats uterine fibroids,adenomyosis,ovarian cysts,endometriosis, Infertility,ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome and pelvic floor dysfunction diseases.
The subspecialty of cervical lesions focuses on the screening,treatment and health education of cervical lesions.It mainly treats patients with benign cervical lesions and cervical intraepithelial neoplasia referred to hospitals at all levels. The disease survey is dedicated to the prevention of cervical cancer. The gynecological outpatient operating room mainly carries out family planning operations such as drug abortion, artificial abortion, Birth control ring placement/removal, as well as hysteroscopy, Dilatation, fallopian tube intubation, colposcopy biopsy and other operations. All the above operations can use painless technology.

1.Da Vinci Robotic Surgery
Da Vinci surgical robot is currently the most advanced minimally invasive surgical treatment platform in the world. Since the undergraduate Da Vinci robotic surgery was carried out in November 2014, we have already completed robot-assisted laparoscopic radical resection of cervical cancer, fertility-preserving extensive cervical resection ,endometrial cancer staging, and vaginal melanoma total vaginal resection, Inguinal lymph node resection of the branches of the great saphenous vein retaining vulvar cancer and other difficult gynecological malignant tumor operations, and all achieved satisfactory treatment results.
2.Cervical Disease Diagnosis and Treatment Center
In May 2003, we established a cervical disease diagnosis and treatment center. The center brings together experts in gynecology, colposcopy, molecular diagnosis, pathological diagnosis, etiological diagnosis, I maging, high-frequency electrosurgical surgery, microwave therapy, freezing, etc. To carry out comprehensive cervical disease prevention, early diagnosis, early treatment, and participate in Several national cervical cancer screening studies, HPV vaccine research, cervical cancer screening reagent research, etc.
3.Gynecological minimally invasive surgery
Our department is a training base for gynecological endoscopic surgery of the Ministry of Health. It is also one of the first batch of gynecological endoscopy third and fourth operative units in Jiangsu Province. Most gynecological malignancies and common gynecological diseases are undergoing minimally invasive surgery, which greatly reduces the surgical damage of patients; we carry out difficult gynecological malignant tumor
operations, such as nerve-preserving cervical cancer radical resection, fertility-preserving extensive cervical resection, Inguinal lymph node dissection of vulvar cancer with preservation of various branches of saphenous vein, leading domestic technology level.
4.Gynecological day case surgery
In 2017, the day ward of our department was officially operated, and the time from hospitalization, surgery to discharge was not more than 48 hours, which greatly shortened the number of patients' hospital stays and reduced the burden and cost of patients.
5.Diagnosis and treatment of complicated malignant tumors in gynecology
We treats a large number of patients with advanced and recurrent gynecological malignant tumors all year round. We are the training base for pelvic organ dissection of gynecological tumors in Jiangsu Province,carry out multi-disciplinary consultation (MDT) for female pelvic tumors, treat various complicated gynecological tumor patients combined with general surgery and urology department.

Research ＆Achievement
Our department undertakes a number of national, provincial and municipal scientific research projects, participates in a number of drug clinical trials and drug verification projects, and has received a total of one national natural science fund, a key project of the Jiangsu Provincial Health Committee and a number of key projects of the Nanjing Municipal Health Committee , Published several SCI papers and core journal papers. Current main research directions include:
(1) Mechanisms of endometrial cancer and endocrine therapy: Study of, and the regulation mechanism of transcriptional regulatory factors, such as Aurora A (Front Oncol, 2019), MTA1 (Gynecol Oncol, 2019), and KLF12 (Gynecol Oncol, 2019); By exploring the effects of estrogen, progesterone, androgen and their receptors and metabolic enzymes on the development of endometrial cancer, which provides a theoretical basis and new treatment methods for endocrine therapy of advanced and recurrent endometrial cancer, and has good clinical significance.
(2) Establishment and mechanism of cervical cancer diagnosis and treatment system: By screening cervical cancer in 32,000 women in Zanzibar, to study the high incidence factors of cervical cancer in Africa; and to establish a local cervical cancer prevention, diagnosis and treatment system for Zanzibar. Conducting clinical and basic research with the control of cervical cancer patients in China to explore the mechanism of cervical cancer gene susceptibility in Zanzibar. It is of far-reaching significance for the 2030 proposed by WHO to eliminate cervical cancer worldwide.
(3) Pathogenesis and immunotherapy of ovarian cancer: To explore the role of immune status in the development and recurrence of patients with ovarian cancer, providing theoretical basis and new therapeutic approaches for ovarian cancer immunotherapy. 3.Cervical Cancer Screening and Prevention Project in Zanzibar: In 2017, our department undertook the "Zanzibar Cervical Cancer Screening and Prevention" major project funded by the Jiangsu Health and Family Planning Commission. For a period of 4 years, under the leadership of Professor Zhou Huaijun, it dispatched medical staff to Zanzibar in batches twice a year. Large-scale cervical cancer screening, surgical treatment of cervical lesions, the project has received international high evaluation for many times.
Education ＆Training
1.Seminar on diagnosis and treatment of gynecological tumors and cervical diseases: Beginning in 2016, Professor Zhou Huaijun presided over and held the annual national and provincial academic conference on "New Advances in Gynecological Diseases and New Concepts in the Diagnosis and Treatment of Cervical Diseases", inviting many well-known experts at home and abroad, and accumulating the number of participants Thousand people.
2.Resident teaching: Standardized training of residents, through a variety of teaching methods such as clinical teaching, teaching rounds, case discussions, etc., so that residents can achieve a balanced development in knowledge, skills, doctor-patient communication and other abilities.
3.Clinical teaching and further training: Our department has undertaken the clinical teaching tasks of gynecology in Nanjing University、Nanjing Medical University、Southeast University, and accepts more than 20 trainees from all over the country each year.
